Options

Choosing between turf and artificial grass

Both can look great. The right one depends on how you use the garden and how much time you want to spend on it.

Natural turf

Real grass that feels and looks natural, supports wildlife and cools the garden, but needs mowing, feeding and watering.

Artificial grass

Stays green year-round with very little upkeep. It still needs occasional brushing and cleaning, and it needs a well-drained base.

Family and pet-friendly lawns

Hard-wearing turf or artificial grass with good drainage, so busy gardens stay usable.

Shade and low-maintenance options

We can suggest suitable turf types for shady spots, and low-upkeep layouts that combine lawn with paving or borders.

Questions

Turfing & Lawns: common questions

When is the best time to lay a new lawn?

Autumn and spring are ideal because the ground is moist and temperatures are mild, but turf can be laid at most times of year, avoiding frost, waterlogged ground and drought. New turf needs regular watering until it is rooted.

Is artificial grass maintenance-free?

Not completely. It does not need mowing, feeding or reseeding, but it benefits from occasional brushing, rinsing and clearing of leaves and debris, and pet owners may need to clean it more often.

Can you remove my old lawn and level the garden?

Yes. We can strip the old turf, level and regrade the ground, improve the soil and lay a new lawn or artificial grass on a proper base.

How soon can we use a new turf lawn?

Keep off it until the roots have taken, which usually takes a few weeks. We give specific aftercare advice when the job is finished.
