Read the guideFencing: common questions
How high can I build a garden fence?
In England you can usually build a fence up to 2 metres high at the back and sides of a house without planning permission, and up to 1 metre next to a road or footpath. Listed buildings, conservation areas and some estates have different rules, so check with your council or title deeds if in doubt.
Who owns the boundary fence?
It depends on your property deeds and any agreements with neighbours. It is worth checking the deeds and talking to your neighbour before replacing a shared boundary. We are happy to quote for the job once you know which side is yours.
Timber or composite fencing?
Timber is traditional and often more affordable to start with, but needs occasional treatment. Composite costs more upfront but needs little upkeep and comes in modern colours.
Can you repair storm-damaged fencing?
Yes. We can replace broken panels, rotten posts and gravel boards, and straighten or rebuild sections, and we can remove the damaged fencing for you.
