Turfing, Artificial Grass and Lawns in Worcester
Walk around the newer parts of Worcester and you will see the same thing again and again: a plain rectangle of grass, quickly finished and left to fend for itself. Walk the older streets and the lawn is often a shaded strip that has been worn thin by years of use. Both can be put right.

TDL lays natural turf and artificial grass and renovates existing lawns across Worcester and nearby Powick, Rushwick, Norton and Claines. We prepare the ground ourselves, because a lawn is mostly made or ruined before the first roll goes down.
Natural turf, artificial grass or renovation
Natural turf gives a living lawn that softens a small city garden, but it needs mowing, feeding and a little patience while it roots. Artificial grass suits a space that is heavily used or overshadowed, though it still needs brushing and occasional cleaning. If your existing lawn has bare patches, bumps or moss, renovation may be enough.
- Natural turf: needs good soil preparation and early watering
- Artificial grass: firm sub-base, edging and drainage layer
- Renovation: levelling, scarifying, overseeding and patch repairs
- Heavy-use lawns: choose for children, pets and washing lines
Ground preparation matters most
With the River Severn running through the city, ground and drainage can differ from one street to the next, and a lawn that stays soggy will not thrive. We look at levels and surface water before we quote, so we know whether the area needs regrading, a drainage layer or simply a good rake and fresh topsoil. A lawn that dips or holds puddles can usually be levelled in place, which is far less disruptive than starting again.
On newer estates the soil can be compacted by the building work, so breaking it up before turfing is worth the effort. Quick finishing is understandable when a home is new, but a few days of proper preparation now saves years of patchy grass, bare corners and boggy spots later. Turfing & Lawns in Worcester: common questions
Is artificial grass sensible for a shaded Worcester garden?
Often it is, because natural turf struggles where light is limited. It is not maintenance-free, though, and it needs a properly drained base so it does not smell or hold water.
When should a new lawn be laid?
Turf can be laid for much of the year, but it establishes best when the soil is neither frozen nor baked hard. We will advise on timing when we see the garden and check how well it drains.
