Garden Fencing, Gates and Repairs in Worcester
In a city garden, the fence does a lot of quiet work. It gives privacy from windows that look straight in, keeps pets and children where they should be and marks the line your neighbour will check. On a terraced street with a shared rear boundary, it is also the most visible part of your garden.

TDL installs and repairs timber and composite fencing and fits gates for homes in Worcester and the surrounding area. We are based in the city and set the posts, panels and gates ourselves.
Boundaries in older and newer streets
Older terraced and semi-detached streets are where side gates and rear boundaries matter most. A gate needs solid posts and good hinges because it is used every day, and a back fence often has to follow an irregular line. On newer estates, the boundaries are usually straight but exposed, so a more substantial fence can add real privacy.
Heavy use shows quickly in a compact garden. Posts that are set firmly, panels that are properly supported and gates that swing cleanly without dropping are what keep a boundary looking straight long after the day it went in.
- Timber panels: familiar, adaptable and easy to repair
- Composite fencing: low upkeep and consistent appearance
- Gates: side access, pedestrian and wider gates
- Repairs: replacing broken panels, leaning posts and worn gravel boards
Heights, rules and neighbours
Permitted-development fence heights are generally up to 2 m at the back and sides, and up to 1 m next to a highway or footpath. Listed buildings, conservation areas and some estates have different rules, so check with your local council. Who owns a boundary depends on your title deeds, and it always helps to talk to your neighbour first.
We also check the ground. The River Severn runs through the city and drainage can vary from one street to the next, so we look at levels and surface water before we quote. If you are in Powick, Rushwick, Norton or Claines, a free site visit will let us measure up and plan access.

Fencing in Worcester: common questions
How high can I build a fence at the back of my Worcester house?
Generally up to 2 m at the back and sides without permission, and up to 1 m beside a highway or footpath. Always check with your local council, especially in a conservation area or on an estate with covenants.
Is composite fencing worth it over timber?
Composite needs less upkeep and keeps its look, while timber is more flexible and simpler to alter or repair. The better choice depends on how exposed the fence is and how much maintenance you want to do.
