Patios and Pathways in Hallow: Porcelain, Stone and Block
Good-sized gardens are made for outdoor living, and patios are the natural way to start. In Hallow, the extra room means a terrace can be big enough for dining, lounging and a firepit, while a lawn still sweeps beyond it. Few small gardens can offer that balance.

Porcelain, natural stone and block paving are all on offer here. The choice of material shapes how the space looks and how much care it needs, and the layout shapes how comfortably you use it. We talk both through before anything is ordered.
Designing a patio that fits a bigger garden
A large plot lets you place a patio away from the house, perhaps catching the evening light at the far end, and link it with a path. A paved route across the lawn also saves wet shoes and keeps the grass from wearing into a track. Where children or dogs run the same route daily, a path soon pays for itself in a tidier lawn.
Porcelain gives a crisp, modern surface, natural stone brings warmth and variety, and block paving offers a practical, patterned finish for paths and wider areas.
- Terraces next to the house for dining and sitting out
- Secondary patios at the far end of the garden
- Stone or block paths across the lawn
- Curved or straight edges, depending on the style of the garden
- Steps and landings if the garden has changes in level
Preparation shapes the result
Before any paving is laid, the area is marked out, excavated and levelled, with a slight fall to keep rain moving away. Often the first job is clearing and levelling the ground so the paving sits on firm, even ground. That also reveals any soft spots before money is spent on materials.
We then compact a sub-base, bed the paving and finish the joints, working to keep the surface flat and free of lipping. A free site visit is the place to start, and we can talk through sizes, shapes and materials with you. Broadheath and Holt Heath are also on our patch. Samples and layout ideas can be discussed on the day.

Patios & Pathways in Hallow: common questions
Where is the right place for a patio in a long garden?
That depends on the sun and how you use the space. Some owners keep the patio by the house for convenience, while others add a second seating area further away to catch afternoon or evening light.
Can I link a patio to a path that crosses the lawn?
Yes. A path laid slightly below lawn level also makes mowing easier, since the mower can run alongside without catching the edge. It also stops soil and grass spilling onto the paving.
