Lawn Turfing and Artificial Grass for Crowle Gardens

The lawn is often the biggest single feature of a village garden, and in Crowle it can cover a lot of ground. A tired, mossy or uneven lawn is a common reason people call us, along with new-build plots where the turf was laid thinly and never settled. Where a village property has character, we aim for a lawn edge and shape that suit the house rather than a plain rectangle.

We supply and lay natural turf, install artificial grass, and renovate lawns that still have life in them. Each suits a different kind of garden and a different amount of time spent on upkeep.

Natural turf, artificial grass or renovation

Natural turf gives the traditional look and feel, and on a large lawn it remains the most usual choice. It needs a well prepared, levelled bed and regular watering for the first few weeks. On a large area, getting the levels right before laying makes mowing far easier for years afterwards.

Artificial grass makes sense on smaller or heavily used areas, such as a play space or a dog run near the house. Renovation, which can include levelling, scarifying and overseeding, is worth trying first if the underlying lawn is basically sound.

  • Ground preparation, levelling and weed removal before turfing
  • Natural turf laid and edged neatly to borders
  • Artificial grass on a compacted, free draining base
  • Patch repairs and renovation of worn lawns
  • Lawn edging to keep borders crisp and tidy
  • Removal of old turf, stones and builders' rubble

Making a big lawn easier to live with

On a generous plot, a mix often works well: natural turf across the main lawn and a small artificial area where the ground is shaded, worn or heavily used. Edging to borders and paths also cuts down on trimming time. Shady spots under mature trees are also worth thinking about, since ordinary grass can struggle there.

Questions

Turfing & Lawns in Crowle: common questions

When is the right time to lay a new lawn?

Turf can be laid for much of the year, but early autumn and spring are often easiest because the weather is mild and the ground holds moisture. Avoid frozen or waterlogged ground, and plan to keep new turf watered if it turns dry. A lawn in poor shape in summer is best left until the weather cools before work begins.

Can you renovate my lawn rather than replace it?

If the grass is thin or mossy but the ground is level, renovation can work well. If the surface is badly uneven or full of weeds, starting again with fresh turf is often the cleaner result. We will tell you which route we think suits your lawn when we see it.
