Hardscaping and Drainage Work in Wychbold Gardens
Before anything pretty goes into a garden, the ground has to behave. Surface water, uneven levels and soft spots stop patios, lawns and paths being laid well, and in a village with several newer developments, like Wychbold, they come up often. Getting them right early avoids having to dig up finished work later.

We handle retaining walls, raised beds, steps and drainage for homes in Wychbold, Droitwich Spa, Crowle and Fernhill Heath, sorting the structure of the garden before the finishing touches. Each job is planned around the existing levels, access and the way you use the space.
Drainage and levelling first
Poor drainage is the most common reason a new garden disappoints. Channel drains collect surface water beside patios and paths, and soakaways give it somewhere to go. Levelling then makes a firm, even base for whatever follows. The aim is to move water away from the house and any paved areas, not just to hide it.
Because this work happens before the finishing, it is far easier to include at the start than to retrofit.
- Channel drains beside paved areas
- Soakaways for larger volumes of water
- Levelling uneven or lumpy ground
- Gentle falls so water moves away from the house
- Foundations sized for the load they carry
Raised beds, walls and steps
Once the ground is sound, raised beds give family gardens a defined planting area at a comfortable height, and a low retaining wall can create a flat terrace from a slightly sloping plot. Steps connect the levels safely. Sleepers, brick and block each give a different look, and the choice often depends on the style of the house.
Brick, block and sleeper options are available. A free site visit lets us show you samples and agree which suits the house and garden. Gutters and downpipes can be piped into the same system so roof water does not end up on the patio.

Hardscaping in Wychbold: common questions
How do I know if my garden has a drainage problem?
Puddles that last long after rain, boggy patches on the lawn and damp against the house walls are the usual signs. We look at these during the visit and suggest the simplest fix. A damp lawn that never dries out is another giveaway.
Are sleeper raised beds durable?
Properly treated sleepers last well, particularly when fixed securely and given a lining. Brick or block beds are more permanent but take longer to build. Linings behind the timber also stop soil from staining the face.
