Kempsey Patios and Pathways in Porcelain and Natural Stone
A patio is usually the first thing people ask for when a Kempsey garden starts to feel underused. Some homes here have small courtyard spaces where every paving slab counts, and others have larger family plots where a terrace can sit comfortably beside the lawn.

Porcelain, natural stone and block paving each behave differently once they are down, and the right choice depends on how you use the space. We lay patios and paths across Worcestershire, and for gardens near the Severn we spend extra time on what happens to rainwater after the paving is finished.
Matching the paving to the garden
Porcelain is thin, hard and low in porosity, which makes it a tidy option for a courtyard or a seating area you want to keep clean. Natural stone has more variation in colour and texture and tends to suit cottage-style borders and older brickwork. Block paving works well for paths and for larger areas where a pattern is wanted.
In a small courtyard, one carefully chosen paving size often looks calmer than a mix. In a bigger plot, a path leading from the back door to a distant seating area can turn an ordinary lawn into a garden with a route and a destination.

- Natural stone in sandstone, limestone and slate styles
- Block paved paths and wider terrace areas
- Steps and level changes where the garden slopes away from the house
- Pointing and finishing suited to the paving type
Levels, falls and foundations
Patios in a low-lying area need a slight fall away from the house so water does not sit against the wall or pool on the surface. We set levels carefully, excavate to a firm base and compact the sub-base in layers before any slab is bedded.
If the ground is soft or wet, we will tell you honestly before work begins and suggest drainage that suits the garden. A free site visit lets us check levels and discuss paving options with samples in daylight, and we cover Callow End and Norton as well.

Patios & Pathways in Kempsey: common questions
Does a patio near the Severn need special drainage?
It depends on how low the garden sits and where water currently goes. We check levels on site and, where needed, add a fall, channel or soakaway so the paving does not hold water after heavy rain.
Which paving is easiest to keep clean on a small Kempsey patio?
Porcelain is usually the simplest to wipe down because it is dense and does not soak up much. Natural stone looks wonderful but benefits from occasional cleaning and sealing, which we can talk through during a visit.
